Day 10, Our last day, saying goodbye!

It is hard to believe our days were over. A tiny island, and yet there is so much we have not yet seen, tastes we have not tasted and beaches and hikes we have not yet explored.

As luck would have it, while getting pies at the bakery in Chora, on our way to the airport, delightful paintings in colorful frames come to plain sight in a neighboring pottery shop! We learn they are not for sale, they are the artworks of a locally celebrated Skyrian painter I had not heard of or known before: Manos Faltaïts, whose 19th century mansion now houses some of his paintings, as well as other art and crafts from the island. Our last hour on the island is spent in the aura of his company, atop a hill, with his collections.

Take a look!

Two months have gone by, and I am still nostalgic to have left this magical island behind, its treasures, the secret rustlings in its cliffs and dunes and beaches, its kind people and the wisdom of so much culture accumulated over the centuries.

I do hope to be able to return someday.
